This project transforms a picturesque lakeside site into a serene retreat designed to blend seamlessly with its natural surroundings. Envisioned as both a family holiday home and a future retirement haven, the retreat offers a thoughtful layout that balances privacy, functionality, and breathtaking views.
Transforming Spaces
The design process began with a thorough site analysis, revealing two distinct environments: a calming tree line and open, expansive views of the lake. This duality inspired a concept where the main circulation follows the tree line, separating private spaces—such as the bedrooms— from public areas like the kitchen, dining, and living spaces. The main bedroom, positioned for optimal views, creates a sense of tranquillity and escape, while the garage is tucked into the least desirable section of the site for practicality.
Architectural features include a solid, functional element that serves as both a divider and a design statement, and monopitch roofs angled to capture northern sunlight and accommodate solar panels. The design emphasizes sustainability, passive lighting, and integration with the environment, all while meeting the client’s brief of comfort and versatility.
